Actress Han So-hee has spoken candidly about why she decided to remove her tattoos.
Before her debut, Han drew attention for the tattoos that once covered much of her body. She has since removed most of them, and has occasionally been spotted using tattoo stickers instead as a way to change up her look.
In a recent interview with Herald Muse held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, Han opened up about the pain involved in the tattoo removal process.
“I haven’t completely removed everything even now. I’ve left a few that won’t interfere with my work,” she said. “These days, tattoo technology has improved a lot, and there are many different tattoo stickers available. I use those as a way to satisfy that desire.”
She continued, “Because of the tattoos, there were dresses I couldn’t wear. As an actress, I need to express a wide range of moods and images, and I felt the tattoos were a disadvantage for me. So I decided to remove them. I can always get them again someday, but for now, I thought removing them for work was the right choice. It really hurt—a lot.”
Han also shared that she does not feel burdened by being labeled a “wannabe fashion icon.”
“I think there are many people who like my personal style,” she said. “I’ve always dressed this way, so I don’t overthink it or try harder on purpose because of that kind of pressure.”
Meanwhile, Han So-hee’s first leading role in a commercial film, Project Y, tells the story of Mi-seon and Do-kyung, who dream of a different future while living in the heart of a glamorous city, only to steal illicit cash and gold bars at the edge of their lives. The film is currently screening in theaters.
